Miami Beach declares emergency curfew over ‘out of control’ spring break crowds

Miami Beach city officials announced an extended state of emergency and mandatory nightly curfew and highway shutdowns in light of “out of control” crowds gathering during spring break.

Officials are imposing an emergency 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew effective immediately, saying large, out-of-control spring break crowds crammed the beaches, trashed some restaurant properties and brawled in the streets.

“Too many people are coming into our city and too many people are coming here with bad intentions,” said Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber during a press conference Saturday. “At night, there is no question that it became a little out of control, or a lot out of control.”
